An Inside Look at Explore Art Everywhere

Your neighborhood Montessori school offers enriching year-round programs, including one during the summer months. Plans are taking shape and becoming more colorful as we prepare to Explore Art Everywhere!

As part of the seasonal program, our Montessori classrooms will offer new, returning, and continuing students the stability of an engaging, intentionally prepared environment. We will add various art mediums and materials to support the exploration of a wide variety of artists and artistic movements. While learning about the fundamentals of the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic arts, students will explore color, textures, and different techniques.

Individual creative expression is the goal in both our indoor and outdoor environments!

An Inside Look at the Program

So, what can you expect? The children will arrive each morning ready to begin their day of active learning. Independence is paramount in the Montessori classroom and children will have choices presented to them each day. The goal is to focus on creativity and expression as we explore different art mediums. Artistic skills will be utilized in unique, engaging ways everywhere within the school. The intentional settings, in our classrooms and on our grounds, provide a natural foundation for the students to design and share their own incredibly creative works—those conceived from their own visions and imagination!

Explore Art Everywhere experiences are tailored by our certified guides and lead teachers to meet their unique community’s needs and interests. Teachers are mindful of how important the Prepared Environment is and will present different art forms within the space each week. These art forms will be displayed around the classroom to inspire the children as they create.

Summer also offers more opportunities for water play and outdoor excursions. Utilizing the natural draw of these two elements will enhance the exploration of art – everywhere!

A Typical Schedule

• Week 1 - Fundamentals of color (primary, monochromatic, hue, shade, tint)
• Week 2 - Secondary colors and more (collage, the color wheel, adjacent, warm & cool)
• Week 3 - Complementary colors (more color wheel, tone, intensity)
• Week 4 - Dots (pointillism, line, dimension)
• Week 5 - Lines express emotion
• Week 6 - Lines convey motion
• Week 7 - Shapes (geometric and organic)
• Week 8 - Form, dimension, and perspective
• Week 9 - Balance and movement
• Week 10 - Textures and patterns
