Seasonal Menu Changes Ahead!

During the next few weeks, you’ll notice the transition of our Grow Fit® menus at school. It’s time to shift into our Spring-Summer selections to take advantage of seasonal foods and recipes. We will also continue to focus on our commitment to the Veggies Early & Often initiative to encourage children to try new things and expand their tastes.

VEGGIE FORWARD

Currently, only 10% of American children eat the recommended servings of vegetables daily. To support improving the current trend, we’ll have “Veggie-Fueled Fridays” with at least two vegetables offered. That means the reveal of some fun new recipes along with seasonal favorites, including Summer White Bean Salad, Mexican Stewed Zucchini, Crispy Garlic Edamame, and Gingered Carrots. Each one focuses on serving more veggies!

MEATLESS MONDAY

Meatless Mondays, now an international movement, will continue in all our schools too. Going meatless once per week is not only good for your health but good for our planet too. It helps to reduce our carbon footprint and saves precious resources such as water and fossil fuels. As part of Meatless Mondays, we’ve added white beans to our menu. You’ll find them in our Cheesy White Bean Tomato Bake in the lunch rotation.

SEASONAL FAVORITES

On the Spring-Summer menu, you will see a few whole grain favorites, including Whole Grain Apple-Zucchini Muffins, Whole Grain Corn Bread, and Whole Grain Berry Animal Crackers. We are confident your child will enjoy these options during breakfast and snack time. They’re delicious! We also hope your child will be excited to see some all-time favorites returning to the menu. We’re bringing back our Chicken & Broccoli Potato Skins and the Macaroni & Turkey Ham Salad.

We hope that by offering more veggie-forward choices, children will be more likely to establish a love of vegetables! You will see these items indicated with the Veggie Early & Often icon.
